Description

How do contemporary Buddhists engage with and reinterpret diverse healing practices, including elements of spirit religion? How are Buddhist healing practices shaped by modern anxieties and the conditions of neoliberalism? How do encounters with other contemporary healing movements—such as Pentecostalist forms of healing—influence Buddhist approaches to well-being today? What do these healing practices reveal about contemporary Buddhist life and religious adaptation in the modern world? Please join us for this thoughtful symposium organized by our postdoctoral fellow Geethika Dharmasinghe.

The University of Toronto operates on land that for thousands of years it has been the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and  the Mississaugas of the Credit. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land. Learn more about this history.
