Tibetan Buddhism

Join us for a special public talk with Yangten Rinpoche exploring how insights from Buddhist philosophy can help us meet the challenges of modern life.

In a world shaped by rapid change and constant uncertainty, many people are navigating rising levels of anxiety, fear, and stress. This talk invites us to consider how Buddhist perspectives can offer practical tools for working with these experiences in everyday life.

Rinpoche will draw on Buddhist philosophy to explore how our thoughts, assumptions, and habitual patterns shape the way we experience the world and how greater awareness of these patterns can open the door to clarity, resilience, and a more grounded sense of ease. The session will offer accessible, practical reflections on stress and mental well-being that can be applied in daily life, regardless of background or prior familiarity with Buddhism.

Yangten Rinpoche has served in the Office of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama since 2008, where he has worked closely on a range of projects, including overseeing the Monastic Ordination Section and contributing to the compilation of His Holiness’ writings and teachings. As Secretary in the Private Office of His Holiness, he has also represented the Dalai Lama in dialogue with scholars, psychologists, and institutional leaders around the world.

He holds the Geshe Lharampa degree which is the highest academic qualification in the Tibetan Buddhist monastic tradition. This is earned through extensive study at Sera Mey Monastery. Across Asia, Europe, and North America, Rinpoche is known for presenting Buddhist thought in a way that is clear, accessible, and relevant to contemporary audiences, including those working at the intersection of Buddhist philosophy and modern psychology.

This event will take place in the Main Activity Hall (KP 208), Multi-Faith Centre, 569 Spadina Crescent, Toronto.

All are welcome. No prior knowledge of Buddhism is required.

The University of Toronto operates on land that for thousands of years it has been the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and  the Mississaugas of the Credit. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land. Learn more about this history.
