New Paths in the Teaching of Buddhist Studies: A Three-day Workshop, Friday February 21–Sunday February 23, 2020
The Robert H.N. Ho Family Foundation Centre for Buddhist Studies at the University of Toronto invites proposals for a three-day workshop on Teaching Buddhist Studies to be held in Toronto from Friday February 21st to Sunday February 23rd 2020. Proposals for papers or alternative formats like panel discussion topics or teaching demonstrations are welcome. Further, we will also consider collaborative presentations between two or more participants. Examples of possible topics or sub-themes include (but are not limited to): addressing controversial topics, race and gender in the teaching of Buddhism, teaching Buddhism through material objects, displaying Buddhist objects in museums or other spaces of public education, teaching with movement practices, teaching outside the classroom or in international settings, integrating contemplative techniques into Buddhist Studies classrooms, situating secularized practices such as mindfulness in the religious studies context, community-engaged teaching, and new approaches to teaching introduction to Buddhism. Please send proposals of no more than 500 words, along with a brief bio to Dr. Betsy Moss, at buddhiststudies@utoronto.ca, no later than September 30th, 2019.
