This special two-hour event includes a wide range of musical/cultural styles, ranging from classical orchestral to hip hop. Through meditation, poetry readings and musical performance we will explore and honor the legacy of scholar, poet, peace activist and Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh. The evening’s program has been curated by senior monastic Dharma teachers from Thich Nhat Hanh’s Plum Village centre in France. Drawing upon the diverse backgrounds and perspectives of our professional performers, our aspiration is to collectively co-create an atmosphere of peace and joy that can be healing and inspiring for all those in attendance.
This event has been funded by the New College Initiatives Fund and is co-sponsored by the Buddhism, Psychology & Mental Health Program, UofT Faculty of Arts & Sciences
May 3rd – Day of Mindfulness “Mini-retreat”
Registration Password: breath
University of Toronto students, faculty and staff are invited to join for a day of mindfulness, facilitated by senior monastic Dharma teachers visiting from scholar, poet, peace activist and Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh’s Plum Village center in France. The day will include a mixture of Dharma talks, workshops and guided experiential mindfulness practices. Our aim is to cultivate an atmosphere of peace and compassion held within the supportive setting of community.
Through this day of hands-on practice, we will explore how to cultivate our courage and capacity in order to meet the crisis of our current moment. The tradition of Plum Village proposes that compassionately embracing feelings and taking care of the “self” is also part of climate and social actions. By transforming ways of thinking and being that are the roots of many of our current crisis, we can begin to create a culture of change within ourselves and within the world.
