SUMMARY:Indic Commentaries on the Kālacakratantra and Methods of Authentic
 ating Tradition
DESCRIPTION:This lecture analyzes how commentators belonging to the Indic K
 ālacakrantantra tradition of the eleventh and early twelfth centuries eng
 aged in the process of mediation\, production of meaning\, and dialogical 
 relation with anticipated critics of the linguistic features and seeming s
 emantic and structural contradictions in the Kālacakrantantra tradition.\
 n\nVesna A. Wallace teaches South Asian and Inner Asian religions and adva
 nced Sanskrit Courses in the Department of Religious Studies at UCSB. Her 
 two areas of specialization are Indian Buddhism\, particularly Mahāyana a
 nd Vajrayāna traditions and Mongolian Buddhism. She has authored and tran
 slated four books related to Indian Buddhism\, three of which pertain to t
 he Kālacakra tantric tradition in India\, and has published numerous arti
 cles on Indian and Mongolian Buddhism. Her most recent book is an edited v
 olume on Mongolian Buddhism\, titled Buddhism in Mongolian Culture\, Histo
 ry\, and Society.\n\n\n\n\n\nProfessor Wallace is currently working on thr
 ee new books\, two pertaining to Buddhism in Mongolia--one is an edited vo
 lume Sources of Mongolian Buddhism\, and the other is a co-authored book\,
  Interplay between Text\, Image\, and Ritual in Mongolian Buddhism. Anothe
 r book is a translation and analysis of Indian Buddhist tantric texts on t
 antric yoga. She also has several other works in progress\, a critical edi
 tion of Sanskrit text\, titled the Smṛtyupasthāna Sūtra and is working
  on Buddhism and law in Mongolia.\n\n\n\n
