 tion Centre for Buddhist Studies is delighted to welcome His Holiness\, th
 e 17th Gyalwang Karmapa\, Ogyen Trinley Dorje\, on the historic occasion o
 f his first visit to Canada. His Holiness is head of the Kagyu school of T
 ibetan Buddhism and is revered as one of the greatest spiritual masters of
  our time. Indeed\, the Karmapa exemplifies the very meaning of “Karmapa
 ”: “the one who carries out Buddha-activity to benefit living beings
 ”. Among the Karmapa's many diverse interests and projects is his profou
 nd concern for the preservation and conservation of the environment. The U
 niversity of Toronto is honoured that His Holiness will deliver a public l
 ecture on this topic\n\nThe Public Talk “Mindfulness and Environmental R
 esponsibility” by the Tibetan Buddhist leader\, the 17th Karmapa Ogyen T
 rinley Dorje has been chosen in accordance with the deep interest and acti
 vities of the Karmapa in combining the Buddhist tradition of respect for t
 he environment with contemporary sciences and practices.   His objective
  is to have a long term visible impact on restoring the natural environmen
 t in the Himalyas and Tibet and to especially protect the forests\, the wa
 ter and wildlife in this region.\n\nCelebrating its inaugural year\, The R
