The Robert H.N. Ho Family Foundation Centre for Buddhist Studies is delighted to welcome His Holiness, the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje, on the historic occasion of his first visit to Canada. His Holiness is head of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism and is revered as one of the greatest spiritual masters of our time. Indeed, the Karmapa exemplifies the very meaning of “Karmapa”: “the one who carries out Buddha-activity to benefit living beings”. Among the Karmapa’s many diverse interests and projects is his profound concern for the preservation and conservation of the environment. The University of Toronto is honoured that His Holiness will deliver a public lecture on this topic
The Public Talk “Mindfulness and Environmental Responsibility” by the Tibetan Buddhist leader, the 17th Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje has been chosen in accordance with the deep interest and activities of the Karmapa in combining the Buddhist tradition of respect for the environment with contemporary sciences and practices. His objective is to have a long term visible impact on restoring the natural environment in the Himalyas and Tibet and to especially protect the forests, the water and wildlife in this region.
Celebrating its inaugural year, The Robert H.N. Ho Family Foundation Centre for Buddhist Studies is deeply privileged to welcome His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa’s first visit to Canada. We hope you will join us.
